Rated 5 out of 5 by Kobudera from Best Laptop I've ever owned I bought the Surface Book about two weeks ago and I am so pleased with its performance. Starts fast, all apps run smooth, video performance and sound are excellent. Love the detachable screen, and the Surface Pen is amazing.

Rated 4 out of 5 by pmif from Stunning display, great design, solid performance Microsoft is back! This device is brilliantly designed and the display is remarkable (better than the ipad Pro). The pen is the first touch screen pen good enough to actually use. Handwriting recognition is excellent. The only problem is that there are problems with the video driver. For some reason the system crashes when in sleep mode. I bought 3 Surface Pro 4's for my employees and they have the same problem. But overall this is an amazing device!

Rated 3 out of 5 by ToddR from It's light I bought this through work, mainly due to it's size and features. I've had to restore it from scratch once already. I am technically inclined so it's not hard to do. It is extremely overpriced for the lackluster support MS provides and it is constantly updating. The add-on's are expensive. Using it as a tablet is very time limited as well. If I had to do it over again I would have bought a heavier, better laptop.

Rated 4 out of 5 by balong48 from Good for Students, could be great w/software fixes At first I had a few issues with detaching the keyboard and had to reset the latch. Afterwards the only issues with detaching is waiting on Windows to be ready to detach, the physical hardware detaches no problem. Software wise there have been no blue screens. Only issue I have encountered with detaching is that either the Intel display driver stops responding or the program "Surface DTX" stops responding. The Intel driver will recover itself, but Surface DTX will not resume until a reboot. Surface DTX not running does not affect the ability to be able to detach the keyboard however, it just will not tell you in Windows when it is okay to detach, you have to follow the green light on the keyboard. Battery life on the machine is not an issue as I have been able to pull 7 hours no problem. This is even with a Core i7 and the nVIDIA graphics card. Performance has been great, the machine is very quick and has not had any slow downs due to multitasking. Granted I have 8GB of RAM. Using the SurfaceBook as a tablet it is kind of big, however it is light enough where the size is not an issue. If you are taking notes on the tablet part only and it is sitting on a slanted surface, the device will slide down and there is no way to make it steady. At that point I usually attach the keyboard and fold the display over so I can have the rubber feet preventing the device from sliding. Writing on the SurfaceBook with both the display separate and attached has been awesome. It is not as precise as I would like it to be, but it works and gets the job done well. My biggest complaint with writing is that the display is so flexible in the middle that it starts to write differently cause of the pressure difference. I often find myself with more odd looking letters and incomplete letters in the middle of the display compared to the outside of the display. The speakers are worse than expected but get pretty loud. The fan does not come on much at all and when it does it is very quiet. The most annoying issue I had was that I would close the device to put it into sleep mode and put it in my backpack. Minutes later I would feel warmth on my back and pull the SurfaceBook out to find it on and no longer sleeping. I was able to fix this issue by changing the lid closing action to hibernate instead of sleep. I do not mind waiting a few extra seconds for the device to wake out of hibernate if that means the device does not turn on in my backpack. Dual Booting: I tried installing Ubuntu 14.04 and 15.03 on this machine. THEY DO NOT WORK WITHOUT PATCHING, now this is no fault of Microsoft what so ever, so this does not hurt my review of the machine. Ubuntu 14.04 will work with patching apparently but I have not gotten around to it yet. 15.03 is more difficult to get working but it will work eventually. I am still working on 14.04. It is completely understandable that Ubuntu does not work on this device because the SurfaceBook is Microsoft hardware and is a very complex device with the base and display separating.

Sometimes, When i try to detach the screen or put it to sleep, the black screen problem occur.i did check for all the update, search on the internet for help, but there is nothing work yet. Rated 5 out of 5 by CalebJosh from Some small issues but overall highly reccomended The surface book is truly amazing to me. I'm a senior Civil Engineer in college, I constantly work with Excel/Word and do some CAD work as well. Speed and usability are fantastic, love the tablet interface and how it all flows. Only issues are, headphone jack is placed on the tablet itself which is awkward when keyboard is attached, keyboard is just a bit small so I have a few more typing mistakes but this is getting better already, tablet gets fairly warm at times, tablet doesn't lay flush with keyboard when closed, just a little heavy for a tablet/laptop and a little hard to type with computer sitting on your lap, most annoying thing is the updates! You get no warning and then you have to do a hard restart to get your surface to turn back on, generally losing all your work/tabs. Overall though, this is still by far the best computer I've ever had or worked with! Definitely recommend it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by FrankieGZ from I've been waiting for this for years, simply great I purchased this as both a table and a laptop to be used in my photography/web design and graphic art business. I have used a Wacom CINTIQ for 8 years and found the pen on screen to be a time saver in developing photographs and producing art. I can now take this on the road with be and process images between photo shoots with no need to return to the office to process. I can even sit on the couch and enjoy my wife's company while processing images. Time saving and very capable. Yes it handles Photoshop and Lightroom with speed and without a hiccup. Screen is just the right size (would not want smaller). Pen is a dream (almost as nice as WACOM though the button (on barrel not the end) is a bit hard to push, I'll get use to it in time. Wish that end button was programmable. Speed is remarkable and as fast or faster than I imagined. Thought I needed quad core but the dual was enough. Facial recognition with Hello is very interesting and accurate as can be expected. Take your time set it up right and then start to work or play or study. Every student should have one of these. I haven't touched my iPad since I got this. Any iPad or Apple laptop seems like a toy in comparison. I run WIFI connections at home with attained speeds of 800mps. Every application I had runs on this without a problem. Everything needs a bit getting use to because this is truly revolutionary.
