The Pferd machinist hand file is 8" long, has a handle, and has a square shape with coarse diamond grit for filing slots, corners, and keyways with a rough finish. The file tapers slightly toward the point to ease access into holes. It has diamond grit for removal of hard, brittle material such as hardened steels, hard metals, glass, ceramics, or fiber-reinforced plastics. The grit has been electroplated to the file surface for durability. The coarse grit is grade D 151 on the Federation of European Producers of Abrasives (FEPA) scale for a rough finish. An ergonomic plastic handle helps provide secure gripping.
